Maple News: Alberta Announces 1,550 Invitations in Latest AAIP Draws Targeting In-Demand Occupations

Maple News reports that between May 20 and June 2, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) conducted seven draws, inviting 1,550 candidates to apply for provincial nomination. This period brings AAIP’s total to 43 provincial immigration draws in 2026 as of June 2.

Invitations went to professionals across several in-demand sectors, including manufacturing, technology, agriculture, and construction. The Alberta Opportunity Stream accounted for the largest share, issuing 64.1% of all invitations.

A closer look at the stream-by-stream allocations and outcomes shows:
– Alberta Opportunity Stream: allocation 3,425; nominations issued 1,394; remaining 2,031
– Rural Renewal Stream: allocation 1,000; nominations issued 480; remaining 250
– Tourism and Hospitality Stream: allocation 150; nominations issued 100; remaining 50
– Dedicated Health Care Pathways (express entry plus non-express entry): allocation 500; nominations issued 112; remaining 388
– Alberta Express Entry – Accelerated Tech Pathway: allocation 600; nominations issued 267; remaining 333
– Alberta Express Entry – Law Enforcement Pathway: allocation 38; nominations issued fewer than 10; remaining not disclosed
– Alberta Express Entry – Priority sector draws/initiatives: allocation 600; nominations issued 213; remaining 387
– Entrepreneur streams: allocation 90; nominations issued 17; remaining 73

Several of these rounds rank among the largest of 2026 to date, including the May 29 Express Entry Accelerated Tech round, the May 27 Alberta Opportunity Stream selection, and the May 22 agriculture and May 21 manufacturing rounds under Express Entry Priority Sector.

The May 20 draw marked AAIP’s first effort this year specifically targeting skilled trades linked to the construction sector. To date, Alberta has invited no fewer than 7,819 AAIP candidates to apply for provincial nomination, with the Alberta Opportunity Stream accounting for a substantial portion of those invitations (4,850).

For prospective applicants, the ongoing AAIP activity signals continued opportunity in Alberta’s labour market, but competition remains intense across streams as slots fill up across sectors.
