Maple News Reports: Manitoba retires student pathway to permanent residence, refocuses on Skilled Worker route

Maple News reports that Manitoba’s Provincial Nominee Program is retiring the Career Employment Pathway (CEP) within its International Education Stream, effective immediately, following a June 11, 2026 update on the program’s official page. Former CEP candidates seeking permanent residence will need to pursue other pathways to stay in Manitoba.

Under the new framework, candidates with at least six months of in-province work experience may be considered for selection under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway, provided they meet all eligibility criteria. CEP graduates who studied at designated learning institutions in Manitoba and are currently employed in the province will be prioritized in targeted Expression of Interest draws.

Manitoba says the change is designed to establish clear, consistent criteria for all Manitoba graduates and to better align education, work experience, and labor market needs.

CEPs holders are advised to review the eligibility criteria for the Skilled Worker in Manitoba pathway and to update their profiles if they meet the criteria. CEP applicants should also ensure they declare all Manitoba connections, including any post-secondary education completed in the province, when updating their profile.

Skilled Worker in Manitoba draws will continue on a regular schedule. Through 2026, Manitoba has conducted 11 draws targeting MPNP candidates through the Skilled Worker stream. Maple News will provide updates as more details become available.
