Maple News reports that the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) will add 200 nominations for 2026, raising the year’s total to 6,603 from 6,403. The redistribution adjusts allocations across streams to reflect the added capacity.
Alberta’s government announced the increase on its AAIP Updates page on August 10, 2026.
With the boost, some streams gained slots while others saw reductions as the province realigns nominations to meet regional labor needs.
The Alberta Opportunity Stream remains the strongest draw, followed by Rural Renewal, Tourism and Hospitality, Dedicated Health Care Pathways, and the Accelerated Tech Pathway.
Nominations for the Law Enforcement Pathway and the Entrepreneur streams were reduced.
New allocations for the remainder of 2026 are as follows: Alberta Opportunity Stream 3,562 (up from 3,425, +137); Rural Renewal 1,057 (+57); Tourism and Hospitality 156 (+6); Dedicated Health Care Pathways 518 (+18); Alberta Express Entry – Accelerated Tech Pathway 619 (+19); Alberta Express Entry – Law Enforcement Pathway 12 (-26); Alberta Express Entry – Priority sector draws/initiatives 619 (+19); Entrepreneur streams 60 (-30).
Nominations already issued to date include 2,085 for the Alberta Opportunity Stream, 613 for Rural Renewal, 129 for Tourism and Hospitality, 220 for Dedicated Health Care Pathways, 388 for Accelerated Tech Pathway, fewer than 10 for Law Enforcement, 420 for Priority sector draws, and 30 for Entrepreneur streams.
As of July 30, 2026, Alberta had issued 3,892 AAIP nominations, with an additional 65 nominations under federal initiatives for practice-ready physicians and francophones separate from AAIP.
Alberta says the expanded capacity strengthens its ability to align with regional labor market needs and provincial priorities.
