Maple News reports that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 271 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in a recent Express Entry draw focused on physicians with Canadian work experience. To be eligible, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 223 and must have created an Express Entry profile before 6:13 p.m. UTC on May 31, 2026.
This draw marks the second Express Entry round in 2026 targeting Physicians with Canadian Work Experience.
IRCC’s 2026 Express Entry activity to date includes 33 draws. Across all draws this year, 85,067 ITAs have been issued, reflecting a clear emphasis on candidates already in Canada—especially those with provincial nominations or Canadian work experience.
A breakdown of ITAs issued by draw type this year shows Canadian Experience Class leading with 41,250 ITAs; French-language proficiency at 30,500; Provincial Nominee Program at 5,405; healthcare and social services at 4,000; trades at 3,000; Physicians with Canadian work experience at 391; and Senior Managers with Canadian Work Experience at 250.
Overall, IRCC’s 2026 strategy appears to fast-track skilled professionals already integrated into the Canadian labor market, a move aimed at addressing regional workforce needs, including in healthcare. Analysts anticipate continued rounds that favor in-country candidates, with provincial nominations remaining a key channel for entry.
