ArriveCAN App Now Mandatory for All Travelers Entering Canada

Maple News reports that starting November 21, 2020, all travelers entering Canada must use the ArriveCAN app to digitally submit required COVID-19-related information. This move is part of Canada’s ongoing effort to protect public health and limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Originally introduced in April 2020, the ArriveCAN app was designed to streamline compliance with border measures. Available as a free mobile app or through an online portal, the platform enables travelers to provide essential details such as travel plans, contact information, a quarantine strategy, and a self-assessment of COVID-19 symptoms.

Air travelers destined for Canada are now required to submit this information before boarding. Those who fail to comply may face enforcement actions ranging from verbal warnings to fines of up to $1,000. However, exemptions may be granted for individuals with disabilities or limited digital access.

Airlines will begin notifying passengers of the new requirement as early as November 4 to ensure readiness and reduce last-minute issues. Meanwhile, travelers arriving by land or sea are strongly encouraged to use the app to minimize processing times and reduce physical contact at the border.

Upon entry into Canada, travelers must confirm their arrival at their designated quarantine location and complete a daily COVID-19 symptom check throughout their quarantine period. This requirement applies to all modes of entry—air, land, or sea—unless the traveler is exempt under the Mandatory Isolation Order.

Those who do not use ArriveCAN prior to arrival must report their information daily by calling a toll-free number, as they will not be permitted to switch to the app after entering the country.

As Canada continues to implement data-driven tools to manage the pandemic, the ArriveCAN app serves as a critical component of the border protection strategy. Authorities encourage all eligible travelers to utilize the platform to ensure a smoother and safer entry process.

Maple News will continue to provide updates on immigration, travel protocols, and COVID-19-related regulations to keep you informed.
