Maple News reports that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated its processing time estimates for temporary residence applications on August 5, signaling longer waits across most categories.
The most notable increases include a 14-week jump in work permit processing for applications from Pakistan; a one-week uptick for Nigerian and Philippine study permits; and a four-week rise for Philippines super visa applications.
Reductions were modest overall, with the sharpest improvement being an 11-day drop for Pakistan’s super visa applications.
In work permits, country-specific timings show pronounced divergence. Canada-based applications are listed at 119 days (down from 120 days); Pakistan climbs to 25 weeks (up from 11 weeks); Nigeria remains at 7 weeks; India sits around 9 weeks; the United States about 3 weeks; and the Philippines roughly 6 weeks.
Service standards remain: in-Canada submissions (initial and extensions) target 120 days; outside Canada submissions target 60 days.
For study permits, Nigeria and the Philippines each saw a one-week increase. Current study-permit times are: Canada 7 weeks; India 5 weeks; Pakistan 7 weeks; Nigeria 7 weeks; United States 5 weeks; Philippines 5 weeks.
IRCC is expected to publish its next temporary residence processing time update around August 12, 2026.
Analysts caution that backlogs and staffing pressures continue to shape these timelines; applicants should plan accordingly, factoring potential delays into travel schedules and visa applications.
