Maple News reports that the Government of British Columbia has released full eligibility details for its new time-limited pathway to permanent residence, targeted at cleaning and security workers employed by a BC health authority in rural or remote communities. The province is calling this a ‘temporary stream’ within its immigration programs.
Three occupations qualify for permanent residence under this initiative, with the program capped at 250 workers: Janitors, caretakers, and heavy-duty cleaners (NOC 65312); Light-duty cleaners (NOC 65310); and Security guards and related security service occupations (NOC 64410).
To be eligible, applicants must hold a regular, indeterminate, full-time job with a BC health authority located in a rural or remote area. Each health authority will determine how it selects the provincial nomination applications it will support.
There are eight public health authorities in British Columbia that eligible workers may be employed by: Provincial Health Services Authority; First Nations Health Authority; Fraser Health; Interior Health; Island Health; Northern Health; Vancouver Coastal Health; Providence Health Care. Support for BC PNP applications must be confirmed by an authorized representative of the relevant health authority, and only designated representatives may sign Employer Declaration Forms.
Registration opens June 15, 2026 and closes August 31, 2026. A webinar with more details will be held on June 10, and interested participants can join the waitlist to participate.
With the cap of 250 workers, applicants are advised to prepare the BC Provincial Nominee Program’s Skills Immigration (SI) documentation in advance and consult the BC PNP SI application guide for the required forms and steps.
This initiative follows BC’s April 23, 2026 announcement and the May 28, 2026 update, underscoring the province’s focus on retaining frontline health workers in rural communities through expedited pathways to permanent residence.
