Maple News reports that Canada’s passport has strengthened further in the latest Henley Global Passport Rankings, rising from eighth to seventh place at the start of 2026. Canadians now enjoy visa-free access to 182 destinations worldwide.
Canada remains the strongest passport in North America, clearly ahead of the United States, which sits at tenth place globally this year.
Singapore continues to lead the world as the strongest passport, a position it has held in recent years.
Looking back at 2025, the Canadian passport fluctuated in its ranking, starting the year seventh, dipping to eighth in July, and ending the year at ninth. The latest movement marks a positive upturn beginning in January 2026, part of a broader upward trajectory.
In the 2026 landscape, the Henley index shows 38 countries in the top ten (with several ties). Europe accounts for 29 of these top ten entries, while Asia contributed four of the strongest passports and five entries overall in the top ten. The shift underscores ongoing regional dynamics in global mobility. For policymakers, employers, and aspiring travelers, Canada’s rising position enhances cross-border talent flows and startup mobility.
