Canada pauses removals of select Israeli and Lebanese residents amid regional crisis

Maple News reports that Canada is temporarily pausing the removal of certain inadmissible Israeli and Lebanese nationals who hold temporary or permanent residence status, in response to the escalating conflict in the region.

Under an Administrative Deferral of Removals (ADR) measure, those affected as of March 7 will be allowed to stay in Canada temporarily while the security situation is reassessed.

Affected individuals may be eligible to apply for a work permit from within Canada.

Removal orders will be enforced at a later date, once conditions in Israel and Lebanon stabilize and the risk of return is reduced.

Israeli and Lebanese nationals covered by the policy must continue to meet Canadian Border Services Agency expectations, including reporting and removal interviews.

Not all inadmissible individuals are eligible for the deferral. The policy does not apply to those inadmissible on grounds of criminality, serious criminality, international or human rights violations, organized crime, or security. Even among those eligible for other CBSA measures, individuals may still be inadmissible on health grounds, financial reasons, misrepresentation, non-compliance with IRPA, or if a family member is inadmissible.

Maple News will monitor developments and provide updates as the situation evolves.
