Prince Edward Island Prioritizes Local Graduates and Key Sectors in First 2026 PNP Draw

Maple News reports that Prince Edward Island (PEI) has conducted its first Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw of 2026, continuing its focus on international student graduates and candidates working in priority sectors. The draw took place on January 15, 2025, and was aligned with the province’s projected schedule for issuing Invitations to Apply (ITAs).

A total of 26 ITAs were issued to in-province candidates through two immigration pathways: the Labour Impact category and the PEI Express Entry stream. The Labour Impact category encompasses the Skilled Worker Stream, the Critical Worker Stream, and the International Graduate Stream.

This selection round maintained PEI’s targeted approach to address local labour market needs. Candidates living and working in the province, especially those employed in healthcare, trades, and manufacturing industries, were prioritized. These sectors have been identified as high-impact areas essential to the province’s economic development.

Of particular note, international graduates from three designated learning institutions received special attention: the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Holland College, and Collège de l’Île. These institutions play a key role in supplying the province with skilled talent ready to integrate into the local workforce.

This prioritization strategy mirrors PEI’s selection trends observed throughout 2025. For example, the first draw of 2025 issued invitations primarily to candidates in the healthcare sector. The consistency in candidate targeting suggests PEI will continue along this path in 2026, focusing on local retention and economic alignment.

Looking ahead, the province has tentatively scheduled its next PNP draws for February 19, March 19, and April 16, 2026. However, PEI has cautioned that these dates are not guaranteed and may shift depending on operational needs.

For immigrants aiming to settle and succeed in Prince Edward Island, especially those studying or employed in the province, this PNP strategy highlights the importance of local ties and in-demand skillsets.

Maple News will continue to monitor and report on future selections and trends in provincial nominee programs across Canada.
