Alberta Issues Over 1,300 Invitations in September, Prioritizing Key Sectors

Maple News reports that Alberta has conducted a busy month of immigrant selection through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), issuing 1,376 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) between September 2 and September 10, 2025. These draws are especially significant as they reflect Alberta’s ongoing strategy to address regional labor shortages by targeting candidates in high-demand sectors.

Seven immigration draws were held over this nine-day period, making it the most active month so far in 2025. The largest draw occurred on September 4 through the Alberta Opportunity Stream, with a remarkable 891 invitations issued and a cut-off score of just 56. This stream remains the most utilized path in the province due to its broad eligibility and substantial nomination allocation.

Other key draws targeted specific sectors such as construction, agriculture, aviation, and healthcare through the Alberta Express Entry Stream’s Priority Sectors pathway. For example, 121 candidates in construction were invited on September 8 with a minimum score requirement of 61. Similarly, 71 individuals in agriculture were invited on September 5 with a low cut-off score of 48.

Healthcare remains a notable focus for Alberta, reflecting the ongoing demand in the sector. On September 2 and 3, a total of 193 healthcare professionals received ITAs through both the Express Entry-linked and non-Express Entry Dedicated Health Care Pathway.

The Alberta Express Entry Stream has adopted a more targeted approach in 2025 by prioritizing specific sectors, alongside its three key pathways: the Dedicated Health Care Pathway, the Accelerated Tech Pathway, and the Law Enforcement Pathway. This strategy is designed to better align immigration with labor market needs and help fill urgent job vacancies across the province.

Notably, the Alberta Opportunity Stream continues to handle the largest share of Expressions of Interest (EOIs), with nearly 42,000 individuals in the selection pool. This reflects strong interest in Alberta as an immigration destination, particularly for candidates with job offers in the province and relevant work experience in local priority fields.

As Alberta continues to tailor its immigration efforts to meet workforce needs, candidates with job offers in these high-demand industries may find enhanced opportunities to immigrate and contribute to the province’s growth. These focused draws align with the province’s broader economic development and population growth strategies.

Maple News will continue to monitor and report on upcoming Alberta immigration draws and policy adjustments as they unfold.
