Maple News reports that the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has issued 165 new invitations to applicants across four targeted immigration streams between April 11 and April 22, 2025. These invitations are aimed at individuals whose skills align with critical labour shortages across various sectors of Alberta’s economy, reflecting the province’s continued commitment to strategic immigration planning.
The four streams included in the recent draws were the Alberta Opportunity Stream, the Alberta Express Entry – Accelerated Tech Pathway, the new Law Enforcement Pathway, and the Tourism and Hospitality Stream. Notably, this update marks the first time in 2025 that Alberta has conducted a draw under the Tourism and Hospitality Stream, and only the second draw this year under the Accelerated Tech and Law Enforcement pathways.
Here’s a breakdown of the invitations issued:
– On April 22, the Accelerated Tech Pathway issued 22 invitations to tech professionals with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 71.
– On April 17, Alberta invited 2 candidates under the Law Enforcement Pathway, setting a low threshold with a minimum CRS score of 49—indicating high demand and few eligible applicants.
– On April 15, the Tourism and Hospitality Stream extended 33 invitations with a cut-off CRS score of 73.
– And on April 11, the Alberta Opportunity Stream led a general draw, issuing 108 invitations to candidates with a minimum score of 77.
This April 11 draw marked the first general draw under the Opportunity Stream in 2025, shifting away from previous profession-specific invites that focused on construction and aviation. With a wide range of eligible occupations, the stream continues to be a key pathway for skilled workers already in Alberta.
The provincial government also provided updates on nomination space availability and application volume. As of now, the Alberta Opportunity Stream has 1,529 nomination spaces remaining with over 35,000 expressions of interest in the selection pool. The Tourism and Hospitality Stream holds 182 nomination spots while the Tech Pathway has 89 left. The Law Enforcement Pathway has a narrow window, with only 20 total annual allocations and just over 10 applications currently pending.
These updates highlight Alberta’s multi-sector approach to immigration, reflecting both the province’s economic priorities and the evolving needs of its labor market. By recognizing and responding to workforce gaps in technology, hospitality, infrastructure, and public safety, Alberta continues to attract diverse global talent needed for its sustained economic growth.
Maple News will continue to monitor and report on provincial and federal immigration developments to keep applicants informed of new opportunities.
