Samsung’s SmartStarts Program Offers Newcomers to Canada More Than Just Tech

Maple News reports that Samsung Canada has launched SmartStarts, a dedicated support program designed to help newcomers settle into life in Canada with greater confidence and convenience. The initiative aims to reduce barriers by offering tailored services, exclusive discounts, and language-assistive technology for individuals who have arrived in Canada within the past five years.

Navigating daily life in a new country can be complex—whether it’s understanding local job markets, studying in a new language, or simply setting up your first home. The SmartStarts program extends a hand to those arriving under student, work, or permanent resident permits by simplifying everyday challenges through technology-supported solutions.

One of the program’s standout features is Samsung’s AI-powered Live Translate tool, available on devices like the Galaxy S24. This real-time call translation service enables users to understand and respond to calls in different languages, enhancing communication where language barriers might otherwise pose a problem. Currently, it supports 13 languages across 17 regions, including English, French, Spanish, Hindi, and Mandarin.

For face-to-face conversations or learning environments like classrooms or guided tours, Samsung’s Interpreter app helps users translate spoken dialogue in real time. When paired with Galaxy Buds3, the Interpreter’s Listening Mode allows newcomers to hear immediate translations directly through their earbuds—an invaluable tool when navigating bilingual provinces or multicultural workplaces.

The program is available to eligible Canadian newcomers aged 18 and older who have resided in the country for five years or less. Participants must provide valid Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) documentation, such as a study permit, work permit, or permanent residency card. Verification is managed by Samsung’s third-party service provider.

As an added incentive, newcomers who successfully enroll in the program will receive a $50 e-voucher applicable to purchases over $300 made through Samsung’s Canadian website or the Samsung Shop app. This offer is valid through December 31, 2024.

SmartStarts doesn’t just offer discounted tech—it represents Samsung’s broader commitment to supporting immigrants in building their new lives in Canada with tools that foster communication, learning, and home setup. For many, it could be a small but meaningful step toward a smoother transition.
