Maple News reports that Alberta has launched a new Expression of Interest (EOI) system for its Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) worker streams, marking a significant shift in how candidates can be considered for provincial nomination.
Effective September 30, individuals hoping to apply under Alberta’s worker pathway must first submit a Worker Expression of Interest through the official AAIP online portal. This new process is free of charge and requires candidates to fill out a detailed online form outlining their personal and professional qualifications.
Once submitted, EOIs enter a centralized pool where applicants are ranked using a comprehensive points-based grid. This framework resembles Canada’s federal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), awarding points based on key human capital criteria, including education, language proficiency, work history—especially experience obtained in Alberta—age, and family ties in the province. Candidates with stronger profiles and higher scores are more likely to receive an invitation to apply for provincial nomination.
According to Maple News, Alberta will begin issuing invitations for its Worker Streams between mid and late October, giving prospective applicants sufficient time to prepare. The province has emphasized that candidates should not rush to submit an EOI, as early entries will not receive preferential treatment.
Potential candidates should be aware that they are prohibited from submitting a Worker EOI if they currently have an active or draft Worker or Entrepreneur EOI, or an ongoing AAIP application. Any existing submissions must be fully withdrawn before proceeding.
Earlier this year, Alberta revised its selection framework for the AAIP Worker Streams in response to rising demand and to better align with the province’s labour market needs. The new EOI model aims to streamline the process, enhance fairness, and ensure that Alberta can attract skilled workers who meet its evolving economic priorities.
This update reflects Alberta’s ongoing commitment to refining its immigration strategies and strengthening its appeal to global talent.
