CAEL Scholarships Boost Support for International Students Aiming to Study in Canada

Maple News reports that international students now have even more financial support available as they pursue post-secondary education in Canada. Prometric, the organization behind the Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Test, has announced a significant increase in scholarship awards to help ease the financial burden of studying abroad.

The total value of the 2024 CAEL Scholarships has been raised to $30,000 CAD. The top recipient will receive a $15,000 CAD scholarship, with second and third prizes of $10,000 CAD and $5,000 CAD respectively. These competitive awards are designed to recognize high-performing students preparing to start their academic journey in Canada.

To qualify, applicants must achieve a minimum score of 60 on the CAEL Test and gain acceptance to a Canadian university or college. Applications can be submitted online through existing CAEL accounts, and students are encouraged to apply early to meet upcoming deadlines.

The CAEL Test assesses English language proficiency in an academic context, mirroring the type of language used in Canadian college and university classrooms. The test features a blend of reading, listening, writing, and speaking tasks, all combining to give institutions a clear understanding of a candidate’s readiness for academic success.

CAEL is accepted by over 180 Canadian institutions, including all U15 research-intensive universities such as the University of Toronto, McGill University, and the University of British Columbia. In addition, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recognizes CAEL for the Student Direct Stream (SDS), allowing faster visa processing for eligible applicants.

One of CAEL’s advantages is its flexibility: it can be taken entirely on a computer, either in-person at a test centre or online from home—making it accessible to students around the globe. The test is completed in a single session and requires no separate speaking appointments.

To support test takers, CAEL offers extensive free preparation resources. These include online sample tests, expert study tips, and interactive webinars covering both test content and strategy. In addition to these, paid materials are offered for students seeking structured study programs.

With both a globally accessible format and increased scholarship funding, the CAEL Test and its expanded award program offer a significant pathway for international students preparing to study, work, and live in Canada.

Maple News will continue to provide updates on scholarships, study visa pathways, and resources for students planning their futures in Canada.
