Quebec Invites 517 Skilled Workers in Continued Surge of Weekly Immigration Draws

Maple News reports that the province of Quebec continues to ramp up its immigration efforts, having invited 517 skilled worker candidates to apply for permanent selection through the Arrima system on September 2. This marks the fourth draw in as many weeks, reflecting the province’s increased activity under the Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program (QSWP).

To receive an invitation, candidates were required to score a minimum of 499 points in the Arrima expression of interest pool. Many of the selected applicants had a valid job offer outside the Montréal Metropolitan Community and worked in occupations currently experiencing labor shortages in Quebec.

The targeted occupations primarily span the tech, engineering, and creative industries. These included roles such as software engineers, computer network technicians, database administrators, and technical sales specialists. The current talent push demonstrates the province’s commitment to attracting professionals who can contribute to Quebec’s growing innovation economy, particularly in regions beyond Montréal.

Since August 12, Quebec has been conducting weekly draws through Arrima, each issuing more than 500 invitations—a sharp increase from previous months. The September 2 draw brings the total number of invitations issued in 2021 through Arrima to 2,664, signaling a notable acceleration in Quebec’s skilled immigration initiative.

The Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program is designed for foreign nationals with the skills and experience needed to integrate economically and professionally into life in Quebec. It remains one of the main pathways for permanent immigration to the province, targeting individuals likely to contribute to its labor market.

Candidates who receive an invitation have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent selection and pay the required processing fees. Quebec aims to process submitted applications within six months, provided all forms and documentation are received.

Successful applicants are issued a Certificat de sélection du Québec (CSQ), which enables them to apply for Canadian permanent residence through federal immigration authorities. As Quebec manages its own immigration process separately from the federal system, applicants to the province follow distinct selection criteria and procedures.

According to Maple News, Quebec’s recent increase in draw frequency and volume is indicative of the provincial government’s proactive approach to meeting workforce needs and boosting regional development by prioritizing economic immigration.
