Prince Edward Island Invites 113 Candidates in Latest PNP Draw

Maple News reports that Prince Edward Island (PEI) has issued 113 invitations to immigration candidates in its latest Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw held on June 17, 2021. This marks the sixth PNP draw held by the maritime province so far this year.

Of the total invitations, 101 were extended to candidates under the Express Entry and Labour Impact streams—key pathways designed to attract skilled workers aligned with local labour market needs. The remaining 12 invitations were issued to candidates in the Business Impact category, requiring a minimum score of 60 points.

So far in 2021, PEI has invited a total of 905 immigration candidates through its PNP, including 816 under the Express Entry and Labour Impact streams and 89 under the Business Impact stream. The continued draws reflect the province’s proactive strategy to address its demographic and economic priorities by welcoming skilled professionals and entrepreneurs.

The PEI PNP’s Express Entry stream is an enhanced nomination pathway that aligns with the federal Express Entry system, which manages applications for three economic-class immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.

Applicants in the Express Entry system are evaluated using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which scores candidates based on factors like age, education, language proficiency, and skilled work experience. Receiving a provincial nomination significantly boosts a candidate’s CRS score by 600 points, almost guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in Canada.

While immigration to Canada, including PEI, declined amid global travel restrictions, the federal government remains committed to boosting immigration numbers. In 2021, Canada plans to welcome over 80,000 new permanent residents through various PNPs, reaffirming immigration as a key driver of economic recovery and long-term growth.

PEI’s active engagement through its provincial nominee streams highlights the province’s demand for talent and its role in achieving Canada’s ambitious immigration targets. As the year progresses, prospective applicants are encouraged to monitor future draws and ensure their profiles align with provincial nomination criteria.
