Maple News reports that on June 17, 2024, Manitoba invited 141 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). Successful nominees will gain a significant advantage in their application for Canadian permanent residency.
The invitations, formally known as Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs), were issued to candidates across three streams: Skilled Workers in Manitoba, Skilled Workers Overseas, and the International Education Stream. Of these, 95 invitations went to Skilled Workers in Manitoba with a minimum Expression of Interest (EOI) score of 430. An additional 24 invitations were extended to Skilled Workers Overseas, requiring a significantly higher EOI score of 703. The remaining 22 invitations were granted under the International Education Stream, which does not require an EOI score.
Among the total, 10 of the invited candidates had active profiles in Canada’s Express Entry system. This federal selection mechanism fast-tracks the immigration process for skilled workers by aligning provincial nominations with federal immigration pathways. Receiving a nomination from a province like Manitoba powers an Express Entry candidate’s profile with an extra 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, nearly guaranteeing an invitation to apply for permanent residence from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
To be considered under most MPNP pathways, individuals must first submit an Expression of Interest. Applicants are then scored based on key human capital factors including education, work experience, language proficiency, and ties to Manitoba. The scoring system operates on a 1,000-point scale.
Candidates applying from outside Canada must show strong connections to Manitoba. These ties can include close family relationships in the province, previous work or study experience there, or participation in a Manitoba Strategic Recruitment Initiative. Residency within Manitoba at the time of application is not required.
International graduates from a Manitoba post-secondary institution may also be eligible through the International Education Stream. This pathway is tailored for students who can showcase in-demand skills that align with the province’s labor market needs.
This draw mirrors a similar one held earlier in June, where Manitoba issued 142 invitations. The consistency in invitation numbers demonstrates the province’s ongoing commitment to addressing local labor demands through targeted immigration strategies.
Maple News will continue to monitor Manitoba’s future draws and immigration policy developments to provide timely updates for prospective immigrants.
