Prince Edward Island Issues 155 Invitations in Latest PNP Draw

Maple News reports that Prince Edward Island conducted its scheduled Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on May 20, issuing a total of 155 invitations to immigration candidates.

Of these, 138 invitations were extended to candidates under the Express Entry and Labour Impact categories, the two primary pathways targeting skilled workers aligned with the province’s labour market needs. An additional 17 invitations were issued through the Business Impact category, with candidates requiring a minimum score of 80 to qualify.

The PEI PNP is part of Canada’s broader immigration strategy that allows provinces to nominate individuals who meet local economic and demographic priorities. Under this framework, Prince Edward Island selects candidates who can contribute to the province’s workforce and entrepreneurial landscape.

The Express Entry category of the PEI PNP is connected to the federal Express Entry system. This system manages applications for three key economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. Candidates are ranked according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which evaluates factors such as age, work experience, education, and language proficiency.

Receiving a provincial nomination through PEI PNP gives Express Entry candidates an additional 600 CRS points, effectively securing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence in future federal draws. To be considered, candidates must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the PEI PNP.

Following a year affected by pandemic-related travel restrictions, Canada is aiming to rebound by welcoming 80,800 new immigrants through Provincial Nominee Programs in 2021. PEI’s consistent draws underscore the province’s commitment to attracting skilled talent and ensuring long-term economic recovery.

Maple News will continue to track updates from PEI and other provincial immigration streams as Canada pushes forward with its ambitious immigration targets.
