This initiative aims to welcome up to 90,000 essential workers and international graduates currently residing in Canada.
Launched in response to travel restrictions and Canada’s ongoing commitment to meet immigration targets, this special public policy recognizes the critical role frontline workers—especially healthcare professionals—have played during the COVID-19 pandemic. Applicants may begin submitting their applications starting May 6, with the intake window remaining open until November 5 or until intake caps are reached.
Notably, Canada is opening six new PR pathways under this program—four of which target essential workers, including those in hospitals, long-term care homes, and other vital services. Two of these pathways cater specifically to French-speaking candidates. In contrast to the English-speaking streams, these francophone-specific streams do not have capped application limits, allowing for greater flexibility and wider participation.
The Canadian government has emphasized the importance of supporting francophone communities outside of Quebec, noting a growing demand for bilingual workers, particularly in education. This move is part of a larger strategy to strengthen French-language schooling and immersion programs, especially in regions facing teacher shortages.
