Maple News reports that Quebec held its largest immigration draw of 2021 on August 12, inviting 515 skilled candidates to apply for permanent selection through the province’s online Arrima platform. The results of this important draw were released today by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI).
Participants were selected through the Quebec Regular Skilled Worker Program (QSWP), one of the province’s key immigration pathways. Candidates were required to have submitted an Expression of Interest (EOI) in Quebec’s Arrima system, a platform that manages the intake and selection of potential immigrants.
Submitting an EOI is the first formal step for those seeking to immigrate to Quebec. It is used to notify the provincial government of interest in obtaining a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ). Those who receive a CSQ may then apply for Canadian permanent residence with the federal government.
This draw was particularly notable as it marked the first round held since the implementation of a new classification system for QSWP applicants. Four categories of individuals received invitations:
– Those working in occupations considered high-priority and scoring at least 591 in the Arrima system;
– Candidates holding a valid job offer outside the Montreal Metropolitan Area;
– Diplomats, consular officials, and representatives of international organizations operating in Quebec, including their staff;
– Self-employed individuals living in the province.
Since the beginning of 2021, Quebec has been holding regular monthly draws through Arrima. This most recent draw brings the total number of invitations issued this year to 1,060.
Quebec operates its own immigration programs and selection criteria, which are managed independently of the Federal Express Entry system. However, final approval for permanent residence still lies with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
With this latest round, Quebec continues to show a proactive approach in attracting skilled talent to meet provincial labor market needs across diverse sectors and regions. More draws are expected in the coming months as Quebec works toward achieving its annual immigration targets.
