Prince Edward Island Wraps Up 2021 with Final PNP Draw, Invites 124 Immigration Candidates

Maple News reports that Prince Edward Island has concluded its final Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw for 2021, issuing 124 invitations to immigration candidates in its latest selection round held on December 16.

The majority of invitations—114 in total—were extended to candidates under the Express Entry and Labour Impact streams, reflecting the province’s ongoing strategy to attract skilled workers who can address local labor market needs. The remaining 11 invitations were issued through the Business Impact Category to candidates with a minimum provincial score of 67 points.

According to data from the PEI Office of Immigration, this marks the last scheduled PNP draw for the calendar year. In total, Prince Edward Island extended 1,804 invitations throughout 2021. Of these, 1,697 were through the Labour Impact and Express Entry streams, while 157 were directed at business candidates.

Prince Edward Island typically announces its draw schedule in advance, though details for the 2022 draw calendar have yet to be released as of this report.

The PEI Express Entry stream is aligned—or “enhanced”—with the federal government’s Express Entry system, which manages applications for three primary economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. To qualify under this category, applicants must first create an Express Entry profile.

Candidates are ranked using a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) that evaluates factors such as age, education, work experience, and language proficiency. A provincial nomination from PEI provides an automatic 600 CRS points, virtually guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in a subsequent federal draw.

This steady stream of nominations underscores PEI’s commitment to attracting newcomers who support its economic priorities—particularly in sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and information technology—while also helping the province tackle demographic challenges related to an aging population and a need for workforce renewal.

Maple News will continue to monitor updates from Prince Edward Island and the federal government regarding the 2022 PNP schedule.
