Maple News reports that Prince Edward Island (PEI) has released its full Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw schedule for 2022, making it the only Canadian province to publish a planned timeline for invitations in advance. This proactive approach allows potential immigration candidates to better plan their application strategies throughout the year.
According to the PEI PNP, the province intends to hold monthly invitation rounds, totaling 12 draws for the year. These draws will target candidates under three major categories: Express Entry, Labour Impact, and Business Impact. Scheduled draw dates include January 20, February 17, March 17, and continue monthly through to December 15, 2022.
In 2021, PEI issued a total of 1,804 invitations through the PNP. Of these, 1,697 were allocated to candidates under the Labour Impact and Express Entry categories, while 157 went to applicants in the Business Impact stream. The pattern indicates PEI’s continued focus on attracting skilled workers and entrepreneurs to the province.
The PEI Express Entry stream is aligned with Canada’s federal Express Entry system, which handles applications for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. To be considered, candidates must first create an Express Entry profile with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), and then submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to PEI.
Candidates selected through PEI’s Express Entry stream can receive a provincial nomination, boosting their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score by 600 points, effectively securing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in future federal draws.
The Labour Impact Category is tailored for foreign nationals who have secured job offers from PEI employers. Within this category, the province further distinguishes between the Skilled Worker, Critical Worker, and International Graduate streams. All applicants must submit an EOI to be considered.
The Business Impact Category is designed for international entrepreneurs planning to invest in and operate a business in PEI. Invitations in this category are typically issued through the Work Permit stream. Candidates must meet minimum provincial scoring thresholds, which vary with each draw.
By releasing its annual schedule, PEI supports transparency and strategic planning for aspiring immigrants. This structured approach reflects the province’s commitment to meeting its labor market and economic development goals while attracting global talent through a predictable pathway.
Maple News will continue to follow PEI PNP developments and provide updates on draw outcomes as they occur.
