Prince Edward Island Invites 150 Candidates in March 18 PNP Draw

Maple News reports that Prince Edward Island has released the results of its latest Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw, held on March 18, 2024. A total of 150 candidates received invitations to apply for permanent residence through the PEI PNP, reinforcing the province’s commitment to addressing labour market needs through targeted immigration pathways.

Of the total 150 invitations issued, 140 were sent to candidates under the Express Entry and Labour Impact categories. The remaining 10 invitations were allocated to Business Impact candidates who met or exceeded a minimum point threshold of 70.

Prince Edward Island’s Express Entry stream is aligned with the federal Express Entry system, which manages applications for three economic-class immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. Candidates in this stream are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), assessing factors such as age, work experience, education, and language skills in English or French.

Those who receive a provincial nomination from PEI gain an additional 600 CRS points, effectively securing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency in upcoming federal Express Entry draws. To be considered for a PEI nomination, candidates must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile to the PEI PNP.

The province uses a unique points-based assessment grid to evaluate EOIs, and only the highest-ranking candidates are invited through regular monthly draws. However, the latest draw update did not include a detailed breakdown of how many invitations were issued specifically for Express Entry vs. Labour Impact categories, nor did it disclose the minimum EOI scores required for selection.

Through Canada’s network of Provincial Nominee Programs, provinces like Prince Edward Island can tailor immigration efforts to their economic and demographic priorities. In total, Canada plans to welcome around 80,800 new permanent residents via PNPs this year, playing a crucial role in national immigration objectives.

Maple News will continue to monitor and report on future PEI PNP draws and related immigration developments across Canadian provinces.
