Prince Edward Island Continues Targeted Immigration Draws with Focus on Key Sectors

According to Maple News, Prince Edward Island held its ninth immigration draw of 2025 on September 19, issuing 129 invitations under the Labour and Express Entry streams of the province’s Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). This latest draw reaffirms PEI’s consistent approach to holding monthly selections that align with the province’s evolving labour market priorities.

The draw targeted candidates currently employed in vital sectors that contribute significantly to the province’s economy. In particular, priority was given to individuals working in healthcare, trades, and manufacturing industries—fields that continue to face skilled labour shortages within the province.

In addition to sector-specific workers, the province also gave preference to international graduates from Prince Edward Island’s educational institutions, including the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Holland College, and Collège de l’Île. Candidates already employed by a PEI-based employer were also viewed favorably.

This move reflects the PEI PNP’s increasingly strategic focus on retaining international talent and addressing industry-specific challenges. The province’s use of its Expression of Interest (EOI) system allows immigration officials to prioritize individuals who demonstrate strong potential to integrate and contribute to economic growth locally.

Notably, candidates working in non-priority fields—such as sales and customer service—were not invited in this round. The province has clarified that limited healthcare and service personnel shortages make it essential to direct draws toward occupations with the greatest need.

Under the EOI model, candidates are evaluated and ranked based on their potential to meet PEI’s economic and labour objectives. Key ranking factors include work experience, education, connections to the province, and language proficiency.

By continuously streamlining its nomination process, PEI aims to build a sustainable immigration pathway that directly supports its local industries and ensures a balanced, long-term population and workforce growth.

Prospective immigrants interested in relocating to PEI are encouraged to consider employment opportunities in high-demand sectors and strengthen their ties to the province through education or current employment, offering a stronger chance of selection in upcoming draws.
