Pictou County Sets 2026 Priority Sectors and Occupations for Rural Immigration Pilot

Maple News reports that Pictou County in northern Nova Scotia has released its 2026 priorities for the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP). The county will prioritize an additional sector and 14 new occupations this year. The RCIP footprint covers Pictou Landing First Nation, the Municipality of Pictou County, and the towns of New Glasgow, Pictou, Stellarton, Trenton, and Westville.

The six sectors prioritized for 2026 are: Business, finance, and administration; Health; Sales and service; Trades, transport, and equipment operators; Manufacturing; and Education, law and social, community, and government services. This continues 2025’s approach, with Education, law and social, community, and government services added as the new sector.

Pictou County is prioritizing 25 occupations for RCIP in 2026, with the 2026 additions highlighted in the county’s list (new entries shown in bold in the official release).

To pursue permanent residence through RCIP, foreign nationals must have a qualifying job offer from an employer designated by Pictou County, in an eligible sector and occupation.

The RCIP-designated area includes Pictou Landing First Nation, the Municipality of Pictou County, and the towns of New Glasgow, Pictou, Stellarton, Trenton, and Westville. If you’re considering RCIP options, review eligibility, identify designated employers, and ensure the job offer aligns with the eligible sectors and occupations. Maple News will monitor RCIP updates and other rural immigration pathways across the province.
