Ontario Targets High-Demand Occupations in New Express Entry Draw, Invites 703 Candidates

Maple News reports that the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued 703 invitations to Express Entry candidates on August 26 as part of its Human Capital Priorities Stream. The latest targeted draw focused on candidates with work experience in specific high-demand occupations, ranging from healthcare to finance and marketing.

Selected candidates needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score between 466 and 475 to qualify. Once nominated by Ontario, these candidates will receive an additional 600 CRS points, significantly increasing their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency through a future federal Express Entry draw.

The province’s focus was on professionals in key areas, including Financial Managers (NOC 0111), Marketing and Public Relations Managers (NOC 0124), Corporate Sales Managers (NOC 0601), Accountants and Financial Auditors (NOC 1111), Business Management Consultants (NOC 1122), as well as several healthcare roles like Registered Nurses (NOC 3012) and Dietitians (NOC 3132).

To be eligible for provincial nomination through this stream, candidates must have at least one year of continuous, full-time work experience (or equivalent part-time) in one of the targeted occupations within the past five years. This experience can be obtained either in Canada or abroad and must align with the primary occupation identified in the candidate’s Express Entry profile.

Express Entry is the federal government’s immigration application management system for three major economic programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. Candidates are scored based on criteria such as age, language proficiency, education, and work experience.

The OINP regularly searches the Express Entry pool to identify candidates who fit its specific immigration criteria. Ontario’s total immigration allocation for 2023 includes 7,600 nominations, with 250 spots reserved for workers in intermediate-skilled occupations (NOC Skill Level C).

This draw underscores Ontario’s ongoing strategy to attract and retain skilled professionals who can address critical labour shortages and support the province’s economic growth. As Express Entry draws continue to become more targeted, candidates with in-demand skills and provincial support are increasingly positioned for success.
