Maple News reports that Ontario has invited 326 candidates through its Masters Graduate stream as part of the province’s latest Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw, held on August 25. This marks the second such invitation round since the introduction of the Expression of Interest (EOI) system for this stream earlier this month.
To receive an invitation, candidates needed a minimum EOI score of 37, representing a slight drop from the score required in the first draw. Those selected have 14 days to submit their complete application for provincial nomination, along with a $1,500 application fee.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) recently expanded its EOI intake system to include graduates of Ontario’s master’s programs. This move aims to create a more transparent and merit-based process for selecting international talent educated within the province. Eligible individuals can now register their interest at any time through Ontario’s e-Filing Portal.
Notably, applicants to the Masters Graduate stream do not need a job offer to qualify. However, they must apply within two years of graduating from an eligible Ontario institution. The list of qualifying institutions includes major universities such as the University of Toronto, Queen’s University, McMaster University, Western University, and York University, along with several affiliated colleges and niche institutions across the province.
Ontario scores EOI submissions based on multiple human capital factors, such as education level, language proficiency, wage, Canadian work experience, and the region of study or work. These criteria are strategically chosen to identify candidates most likely to succeed in Ontario’s labor market. Additionally, the OINP can allocate up to 10 discretionary points to respond to regional labor needs.
The Masters Graduate stream has gained popularity among international students who have completed their studies in Ontario and wish to settle permanently. By offering a simplified pathway to permanent residence without requiring a job offer, the program positions Ontario as a top destination for talented international graduates.
According to Maple News, as the province continues to modernize and streamline its immigration intake processes, the recent draw reinforces Ontario’s commitment to attracting and retaining globally educated talent to support its long-term economic growth.
