Maple News reports that Ontario has invited 158 international student candidates to apply for a provincial nomination through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), following two targeted draws held on May 26.
The majority—147 candidates—were selected under the general stream of the Employer Job Offer: International Student category. To qualify, applicants needed to have an Expression of Interest (EOI) score of at least 73. The remaining 11 invitations were extended to candidates under the Regional Immigration Pilot, which did not require a minimum score.
The Ontario International Student stream is part of the province’s broader Employer Job Offer category. It is specifically designed for international graduates who have received a valid job offer in Ontario. Applicants do not need to be physically present in Canada at the time of applying, provided they meet all eligibility criteria.
To be eligible, candidates must have completed a credential from a recognized Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada and must have a full-time, permanent job offer in an eligible occupation within Ontario. They must also demonstrate an intent to live and work in the province.
Prospective applicants must first register an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile through Ontario’s online system. Once registered, profiles are scored based on a structured points system that assesses multiple factors, including the skill level of the job offer, relevant Canadian work experience, offered wage, educational qualification, English or French language ability, and the location where the candidate studied or worked in Ontario.
Ontario uses the National Occupational Classification (NOC) to classify positions and determine job skill levels. In addition, the province reserves the discretion to award up to 10 points to meet pressing labour market needs.
The OINP continues to support Ontario’s labour market by prioritizing candidates who not only meet job requirements but also show long-term potential for economic integration. The recent draws reflect the province’s ongoing commitment to attracting and retaining international talent educated in Canada.
This opportunity provides a pathway to permanent residence for international graduates aiming to build their careers and lives in Ontario.
