Ontario, B.C., and Manitoba Extend Invitations to Skilled Workers Through Provincial Nominee Programs

Maple News reports that three Canadian provinces—Ontario, British Columbia, and Manitoba—have issued new invitations this week for immigration candidates to apply through their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). These targeted draws are part of an ongoing effort to address local labour market needs and support regional economic growth.

Canada’s PNP system, established in 1998, allows provinces and territories to select immigration candidates who are best suited to fill labour shortages and integrate successfully into local communities. Although a provincial nomination does not automatically result in permanent residency, it significantly enhances an applicant’s profile. Candidates nominated by a province under the Express Entry system receive an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, effectively guaranteeing an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency in a subsequent federal draw.

In Ontario, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) issued 1,726 invitations on October 8 under the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream. Of those, 885 invitations were sent to candidates working in skilled trades occupations with a minimum score of 48. An additional 841 candidates received invitations in a targeted draw for other priority occupations. To qualify in this group, applicants required a minimum score of 52 and an eligible job offer in a priority occupation. These occupations are defined by the province and categorized by National Occupation Classification (NOC) codes.

Meanwhile, British Columbia conducted its own round of invitations this week under the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). The province focused on candidates in demand occupations, such as healthcare, childcare, and tech-related fields. While exact figures weren’t quoted, recent trends show that B.C. continues to favor candidates with job offers in sectors key to its economic strategy.

Manitoba also held a round of invitations through its Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). The province typically selects candidates through different streams including Skilled Workers in Manitoba, Skilled Workers Overseas, and International Education Stream. While specific numbers for this week’s draw remain limited, applicants are evaluated based on factors such as language proficiency, work experience, and connection to the province.

According to Maple News, the PNP remains one of Canada’s most impactful immigration pathways for skilled workers. Provinces benefit by addressing unique labour market needs, and skilled migrants are provided a clearer path toward permanent residency and long-term settlement in Canada.

As demand for talent remains strong across the country, especially in sectors like trades, healthcare, and tech, provincial draws are expected to continue on a regular basis. Candidates considering immigration to Canada are encouraged to stay updated on PNP requirements and opportunities specific to each province.

For many employers and workers alike, the PNP system serves as a vital bridge between local economic needs and global talent.
