Northwest Territories Expands Nominee Program Intake and Updates Eligibility Criteria for 2025

Maple News reports that the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) will open a third intake window for 2025, offering more skilled foreign workers an opportunity to gain Canadian permanent residency through provincial nomination.

This new application window will be open from November 10 to November 24, 2025. The territory aims to process up to 103 additional eligible applications before the year ends, helping it reach its 2025 target of 300 total nominations.

In an effort to boost the efficiency and accessibility of the program, the NTNP has introduced several important policy adjustments for the remainder of 2025. Notable changes include the removal of restrictions tied to the expiration dates on work permits, a reinstatement of work experience requirements from 2024 for specific program streams, and the elimination of employer-specific caps on application submissions.

Priority for processing will be given to applicants whose work permits are set to expire within the next three months. After that, applications will be assessed based on the date they were received. If more than 103 eligible applications are submitted during this intake window, or if an application cannot be completed by December 23, 2025, it will be withdrawn.

Applicants will receive email updates informing them whether their files are being processed or have been withdrawn. Those whose applications are not accepted this round will have the opportunity to reapply in 2026.

These changes reflect the Northwest Territories’ ongoing efforts to address labour shortages and support economic growth by attracting and retaining foreign talent. With streamlined criteria and a more flexible intake process, the NTNP is positioning itself as an adaptable and responsive pathway for immigration in Canada’s northern region.
