Manitoba Holds Landmark PNP Draw, Invites 602 Immigration Candidates

Maple News reports that on September 2, the province of Manitoba issued 602 invitations to immigration candidates under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). This marks one of the significant rounds of invitations aimed at selecting skilled individuals who can support the province’s economic and labor market needs.

The invitations, also referred to as Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs), allow selected candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. Receiving a provincial nomination significantly improves an applicant’s chance of becoming a Canadian permanent resident, adding 600 points to their Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

Here’s the breakdown of invitations from this draw:
– 463 LAAs were issued under the Skilled Workers in Manitoba stream, with a minimum Expression of Interest (EOI) score of 445.
– 84 LAAs were granted through the Skilled Workers Overseas stream, requiring a minimum EOI score of 698.
– 55 LAAs were awarded through the International Education Stream, which does not require a specific EOI score.

Among the total candidates invited, 101 individuals were also in the federal Express Entry pool. Express Entry is Canada’s flagship application system for skilled immigration, covering the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

While candidates can apply directly through Express Entry, receiving a provincial nomination — such as from Manitoba’s PNP — virtually guarantees an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency due to the 600-point CRS boost that comes with it.

To be considered under MPNP, candidates must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). Manitoba ranks applicants based on a 1,000-point system that evaluates human capital factors like work experience, education, language proficiency, and ties to the province.

The MPNP is especially strategic in selecting candidates in alignment with regional labor needs. Eligible international graduates who studied in Manitoba and possess in-demand skills can qualify through the International Education Stream. Similarly, skilled workers overseas can be invited if they have a strong connection to Manitoba, such as family ties, past work or education in the province, or participation in Manitoba’s Strategic Recruitment Initiatives.

Those applying under the Skilled Workers in Manitoba category must hold a full-time job offer from a local employer, reinforcing Manitoba’s goal of retaining talent that is already contributing to its economy.

This draw reaffirms Manitoba’s proactive stance on welcoming skilled immigrants who are well-positioned to integrate and contribute to the province’s growth, notes Maple News.
