Maple News reports that the provinces of Manitoba and Alberta have issued new invitations to candidates seeking Canadian permanent residence through their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
In an immigration update spanning from February through early March, Manitoba issued a total of 111 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) under two key streams of its Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). On March 6, 98 candidates were invited under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream, with the lowest-ranked candidate scoring 861 points. Additionally, 13 candidates were invited through the Skilled Worker Overseas stream. These candidates were selected through a strategic recruitment initiative, and the minimum score for this stream was 724.
Among the 111 total LAAs, 27 were given to candidates who had valid Express Entry profile numbers along with job seeker validation codes—signaling continued alignment between provincial selection and Canada’s federal Express Entry system.
Meanwhile, Alberta has remained active via the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), holding several draws from February 7 through March 6. The most recent draw, held on March 5, targeted law enforcement professionals under the province’s tailored pathway for this sector. This new initiative aligns with Alberta’s efforts to address labor shortages in public safety.
Earlier AAIP rounds in February focused on high-demand occupations such as healthcare, technology, construction, and agriculture. These targeted draws reflect Alberta’s strategy of aligning immigration selection with pressing labor market needs across various industries.
Both provinces continue to use their nominee programs not only to fill employment gaps but also to attract immigrants with the skills and experience needed to support regional economic growth. These latest draws reinforce the importance of employer-driven pathways and strategic recruitment initiatives within Canada’s broader immigration landscape.
Candidates who receive provincial nominations earn additional points under Express Entry, significantly boosting their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
