IRCC to Increase Processing Fees for Temporary Resident Applications Starting December 1

Maple News reports that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will raise application and processing fees for several temporary resident services starting December 1, 2024. The update will impact visitors, international students, and foreign workers looking to restore their status or enter Canada.

According to the IRCC, the changes will apply to a range of applications, including the restoration of temporary resident status, requests for authorization to return to Canada, criminal rehabilitation applications (including cases of serious criminality), and temporary resident permit (TRP) applications. These updates reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to align processing fees with current service delivery costs.

While the new fee amounts have not yet been officially released, the current pricing structure remains in place until November 30. Applicants are advised to submit their applications as soon as possible to avoid any unexpected increases in cost.

Here are the current application fees (in CAD):
– Restoration of visitor status: $229.00
– Restoration of student status: $379.00
– Restoration of worker status: $384.00
– Authorization to return to Canada: $459.55
– Criminal rehabilitation (criminality): $229.77
– Criminal rehabilitation (serious criminality): $1,148.87
– Temporary Resident Permit (TRP): $229.77

For applicants submitting complete applications online before December 1, the existing fees will be honored. Online submissions are processed immediately, securing the current rates. For those mailing their documents, IRCC will still accept applications sent before the change, provided they include the correct fee and necessary documentation.

In the event that an application is received after the fees have increased, and the applicant paid the older amount, IRCC will follow up with instructions on how to settle any remaining balance. This ensures transparency and fairness for applicants navigating the evolving fee structure.

Maple News encourages all temporary residents and future applicants to stay updated by checking IRCC communications regularly and to plan their applications accordingly to avoid additional charges.
