Four Canadian Provinces Issue New Immigration Invitations Under Latest PNP Rounds

Maple News reports that four Canadian provinces—British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Prince Edward Island—have issued new invitations for permanent residence candidates through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) between December 19 and 29, 2023. These draws are part of Canada’s broader strategy to support regional labor market needs and boost economic growth by selecting skilled talent internationally.

Through the PNP, provinces are able to nominate individuals who demonstrate the ability to integrate into the local workforce and benefit the regional economy. A provincial nomination significantly increases a candidate’s chances of securing permanent residency through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

British Columbia led this round with four targeted draws conducted on December 19, inviting a total of 230 candidates. The largest draw, focused on technology occupations, issued 107 invitations to candidates with a minimum score of 95. Additional draws targeted key sectors including construction (32 candidates, minimum score 75), healthcare (29 candidates, minimum score 60), and early childhood education (62 candidates, minimum score 60).

The PNP operates under a shared jurisdiction between federal and provincial governments. Every year, IRCC outlines its immigration targets in the national Immigration Levels Plan, which includes allocation quotas for each province. These allocations are determined based on each province’s population size, economic needs, and workforce gaps.

This latest wave of provincial nominations highlights the ongoing demand for skilled talent in priority sectors such as tech, healthcare, construction, and education—fields where Canada continues to face critical labor shortages.

Further details regarding Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Prince Edward Island PNP draws during this period are expected to be released soon. Maple News will continue to monitor and report on these developments as Canada executes its ambitious multi-year immigration strategy aimed at welcoming over 465,000 permanent residents in 2024.
