Maple News reports that the Express Entry candidate pool continued its downward trajectory, with 1,172 profiles exiting between March 1 and March 15, 2026. The two-week move eased competition ahead of a wave of March invitations, but the snapshot captures only part of the shifting landscape.
The largest dip occurred in the 501–600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score band, which shed 992 profiles over the period. This band has faced persistent reductions due to regular Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draws, which have issued 28,000 invitations so far this year.
Other notable declines over the same window were seen in the 401–410 band (down 359 profiles), the 421–430 band (down 275), and the 431–440 band (down 234).
It is important to note that the March 15 pool snapshot does not reflect three Express Entry draws held March 16–18, which issued 8,362 Invitations to Apply (ITAs). Those draws are set to alter the pool’s balance for high-scoring candidates and could further reduce the number of top tier profiles in circulation.
Taking those draws into account, the 501–600 band could have fallen by as much as an additional 4,992 profiles since March 1—a 35.5% drop from early March—bringing the number of top-scoring candidates in that range toward roughly 9,000.
Implications for applicants: with a substantial ITA surge in a short period, the dynamics of invitation thresholds can shift quickly. Analysts suggest candidates focus on maximizing CRS improvements where possible, keeping credentials up to date, and monitoring draw patterns to time submissions strategically. Maple News will continue tracking Express Entry changes to clarify how these shifts affect chances of receiving an ITA.
