Celebrating Excellence: Immigrant Entrepreneurs, Leaders, and Changemakers Honored in RBC Top 25 Awards

Maple News reports that 25 outstanding individuals have been named winners of the 2024 RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards, a prestigious nation-wide recognition of immigrants making notable contributions across Canada. The awards, organized by Canadian Immigrant magazine and sponsored by RBC Royal Bank, celebrate those who have made remarkable achievements in entrepreneurship, community activism, education, and leadership. This year’s winners were chosen through a combination of public voting and a judging panel, with over 72,000 votes cast — the highest in the award’s history.

“This response is a testament to how deeply immigrant success stories resonate with Canadians and the importance of recognizing resilience and positive impact, especially in challenging times,” said Sanjay Agnihotri, Director at Canadian Immigrant magazine.

Among the winners is Tareq Hadhad, who received the RBC Entrepreneur Award. Hadhad, originally from Syria, is the founder and CEO of Peace By Chocolate — a Nova Scotia-based enterprise that started as a small family kitchen operation after his family resettled in Canada. Today, the brand is available nationwide and donates a portion of its proceeds to peacebuilding efforts worldwide.

Another notable honoree is Maryam Yaqoob, a University of Calgary medical student awarded the RBC Youth Award. Yaqoob plays a leading role in empowering immigrant and refugee youth by mentoring them and co-founding the Calgary STEM Cell Chapter. Her advocacy and academic excellence showcase the value of youth leadership in shaping Canada’s future.

The awards also highlighted individuals from a variety of professional and cultural backgrounds. Ajibola (Jibs) Abitoyen, originally from Nigeria, now serves as a city councillor for Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. She is also the founder of Divineity Fashion, a socially driven clothing enterprise that supports Nigerian women and donates part of its proceeds to aid survivors of domestic violence.

Each winner receives a commemorative plaque and ceremonial gift, and their profiles are featured in Canadian Immigrant magazine, offering national exposure to their inspiring journeys.

The RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards continue to emphasize the critical role immigrants play in shaping Canada economically, socially, and culturally — contributing not just to their communities, but also influencing policy, innovation, and inclusivity across the nation.
