Canada’s PGP 2021 Lottery Draw Underway: What to Do If You Receive an Invitation

Maple News reports that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is currently conducting its 2021 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) lottery. Taking place between September 23 and October 7, 2021, IRCC intends to issue up to 30,000 invitations to potential sponsors during this two-week period.

These invitations are only being sent to individuals who submitted an Interest to Sponsor form during the original submission window—between October 13 and November 3, 2020. If you applied at that time, it is crucial to regularly check your email, including spam and junk folders, to see if you’ve been selected to submit a full sponsorship application.

Invitations are emailed from the address: CIC.CPCMississaugaDoNotReply-CTDMississaugaNePasRepondre.CIC@cic.gc.ca. The subject line will be: “Parents and Grandparents Program Invitation / L’invitation à présenter une demande dans le cadre du Programme des parents et des grands-parents – CPCM / CTDM”.

If you receive an invitation, you have just 60 days to respond with a complete sponsorship application. This includes crucial documents such as proof of income, tax returns, civil status records, and other supporting materials.

Maple News underscores the importance of acting promptly. Receiving a PGP invitation can be a rare opportunity to reunite families permanently in Canada, making timely preparation essential.

To be eligible, sponsors must meet certain income requirements and be Canadian citizens or permanent residents at least 18 years old. Selected sponsors may include parents and grandparents in their application for permanent residence, giving them the possibility of joining their families in Canada on a long-term basis.

While the PGP is separate from Canada’s Super Visa program, which offers temporary long-stay status for parents and grandparents, it remains one of the most direct pathways for securing permanent residency for family members.

Maple News encourages sponsors to begin gathering all required materials as soon as an invitation is received, and to seek professional guidance if needed, to ensure a complete and accurate submission within the 60-day time limit.
