Maple News reports that essential workers and international graduates currently residing in Canada now have new pathways to permanent residency, thanks to a series of immigration programs launched by the federal government.
To help applicants better understand these opportunities, a webinar titled “How to Apply for PR” was held on April 27, 2021, hosted by immigration law firm Campbell Cohen in collaboration with CanadaVisa. The session offered a comprehensive overview of six new streams for permanent residence, which officially opened on May 6, 2021.
These limited-time programs target temporary residents already in Canada, with three streams dedicated to essential workers in health care and other critical sectors, and three more catered to recent international graduates of Canadian post-secondary institutions. The aim is to support Canada’s economic recovery and recognize the contributions of individuals who have been instrumental during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Maple News notes that the webinar covered program eligibility, required documentation, application timelines, and key tips for submitting a successful application. The session was especially useful for those planning to apply early, as some streams have caps and are expected to fill quickly.
The six new programs are part of Canada’s broader strategy to welcome over 400,000 new permanent residents annually. By creating tailored pathways for individuals already contributing to the country’s economy and society, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is strengthening its commitment to talent retention and long-term population growth.
Although registration for the live webinar has closed, a full recording remains available for on-demand viewing. Those interested can also access the official presentation slides for a detailed summary of the application process.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to act swiftly and prepare all necessary documents ahead of time. Maple News will continue to provide updates on these major immigration initiatives, including policy changes, deadlines, and application tips as they develop.
