Canada Named Safest Travel Destination in the World for 2024

Maple News reports that Canada has been ranked as the safest country for international travel in 2024, according to a recently released study by Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP). The annual report evaluates global travel safety using a comprehensive scoring system that combines survey data, expert insights, and global indices.

This year, Canada jumped an impressive five positions from its 2023 ranking, rising from sixth to claim the top spot. The BHTP report attributes Canada’s high safety rating to factors such as its low population density and cold climate—both of which contribute to a lower likelihood of crime and health concerns for travelers.

To arrive at its rankings, BHTP blended six sub-category scores from its own State of Travel Insurance research with third-party data sources. These include the Global Peace Index, U.S. State Department travel advisories, and GeoSure Global’s city-level safety ratings. Combined, these measures are used to produce a final weighted score representing each country’s overall travel safety level.

Each of the top 15 countries in the 2024 rankings received a detailed profile in the report, including a list of safety concerns specific to each location. For Canada, the report highlights environmental hazards—specifically last year’s record-setting wildfires—that had significant impacts on air quality across major cities and posed health risks for travelers with respiratory conditions.

Despite this challenge, Canada’s strong infrastructure, political stability, and low crime rates contributed to its rise in the global safety ranking. The report further reinforces Canada’s reputation not only as a welcoming nation but also as a secure and peaceful destination for both international tourists and immigrants.

With Canada continuing to be a top choice for newcomers seeking both safety and opportunity, this recognition serves as yet another reason why the country remains attractive for potential immigrants, students, and entrepreneurs looking to establish their future abroad.
