Maple News reports that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has officially launched the first Express Entry draw of 2026, inviting 574 candidates to apply for permanent residence under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) category.
This draw, held on January 5, 2026, required candidates to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 711. In addition, eligible participants must have submitted their Express Entry profiles before 1:54 a.m. UTC on October 6, 2025.
The focus on PNP candidates reflects Canada’s ongoing commitment to supporting provincial and territorial immigration objectives. Those who receive a provincial nomination automatically gain 600 additional CRS points, significantly boosting their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
This marks the first selection round in the Express Entry system for the new year, signaling the beginning of what is expected to be another dynamic year in Canada’s economic immigration strategy.
While exact details of upcoming rounds remain to be seen, IRCC is expected to continue prioritizing in-Canada applicants and expand category-based draws. Recent policy directions suggest that French-language proficiency draws will increase as Canada works toward growing its Francophone immigrant population outside of Quebec.
Additionally, IRCC is preparing to implement a new Express Entry category for physicians with Canadian work experience, aiming to attract and retain healthcare professionals to support Canada’s growing healthcare system needs.
This first draw of 2026 also highlights how IRCC remains focused on aligning immigration selection with labor market needs and demographic targets outlined in Canada’s multi-year Immigration Levels Plan.
Maple News will continue to monitor and report on Express Entry developments as new draws and policies emerge over the course of the year.
