Maple News reports that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has introduced new application fees for several immigration and restoration services, effective December 1, 2024. This adjustment affects a variety of application types, with modest increases across the board.
Here’s a breakdown of the updated fees:
– Authorization to Return to Canada: $479.75 (up from $459.55)
– Criminal Inadmissibility: $239.75 (previously $229.77)
– Serious Criminality Inadmissibility: $1,199.00 (previously $1,148.87)
– Restoration of Student Status: $389.75 (up from $379.00)
– Restoration of Visitor Status: $239.75 (up from $229.00)
– Restoration of Worker Status: $394.75 (up from $384.00)
– Temporary Resident Permit (TRP): $239.75 (previously $229.77)
– International Experience Canada (IEC): $179.75 (up from $172.00)
According to IRCC, applications submitted online before the fee change will not be impacted. Online applicants pay in real time, so if your application was submitted before December 1, 2024, you will not be required to pay the updated fees.
However, if you mailed a paper application—such as for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) extension—there’s a chance it was received after the fees increased. In such cases, IRCC generally does not reject the application provided that it (1) was submitted in full, (2) included the complete old fee, and (3) was mailed before the new fees took effect.
If IRCC receives your paper application post-change, they will contact you with instructions on how to pay the difference between the old and new fees. Applicants must calculate the fee difference, make the additional payment through their IRCC account, and submit proof of payment as directed.
These adjustments are part of IRCC’s regular review and alignment of application processing fees, consistent with service delivery costs and inflationary pressures. Maple News encourages applicants to stay informed of changes and ensure proper fee payment to avoid delays.
For those navigating the immigration process, this revision serves as a timely reminder to double-check fee structures before submitting your application.
