Canada Expands Free and Discounted Museum Access for Youth with Canada Strong Pass

Maple News reports that as of July 17, 2025, 86 additional provincial and territorial museums and galleries have joined the Canada Strong Pass program, significantly expanding access to cultural attractions across the country. This initiative, which was launched on June 20, offers free admission to children aged 17 and under, and a 50% discount for youth between the ages of 18 and 24.

The Canada Strong Pass applies to both federal and now participating provincial and territorial museums and galleries, and it is available to all visitors — including international travelers — regardless of immigration status. The pass requires no registration or physical card. Eligible visitors simply need to arrive at a participating venue to enjoy the benefits.

The expanded list includes prominent institutions such as the Royal BC Museum in Victoria, the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton, the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, and The Rooms in St. John’s. Other participating sites span across all provinces and territories, from the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax to the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre in Whitehorse.

This program is set to run until September 2, 2025, providing an extended period for youth and families to explore Canada’s vast and diverse cultural and historical offerings. Inclusion in the program is voluntary for provincial and territorial institutions, but the strong response suggests widespread support for increasing youth access to heritage and culture.

The Canada Strong Pass encourages both local and international exploration of Canada’s rich tapestry of history, art, and science. For newcomers and immigrant families, it also serves as a welcoming gesture and an opportunity to connect more deeply with Canadian society.

According to Maple News, the initiative aligns with Canada’s broader efforts to promote inclusive and affordable access to public services and institutions, while also supporting tourism and cultural engagement throughout the country.

Whether you’re a newcomer settling into Canadian life or a tourist eager to learn more about the nation’s heritage, the Canada Strong Pass offers a valuable and easy way to explore Canada’s vibrant museum landscape — without the financial barrier.
