Alberta Targets Construction Workers in Latest Immigration Invitation Round

Maple News reports that on July 25, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) conducted a focused draw under its Alberta Express Entry Stream, issuing invitations to 39 candidates with work experience in construction-related occupations.

This targeted draw is part of Alberta’s broader strategy to address significant labour shortages in high-demand sectors such as construction. Candidates selected held valid Express Entry profiles and were either employed in or had job offers from Alberta-based construction companies. To qualify, applicants needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 66—among the lowest cut-off scores recorded this year, reflecting Alberta’s urgent demand for skilled tradespeople.

According to Maple News, these invitations are aligned with the province’s plan to prioritize immigration candidates who can directly support Alberta’s growing economy. The construction sector has been flagged as a priority area, alongside others like agriculture, aviation, and healthcare.

Alberta’s Express Entry Stream facilitates the selection of federal Express Entry candidates who meet provincial labour market needs. Those invited to apply through this stream and who successfully secure a provincial nomination receive an additional 600 CRS points, significantly increasing their chances of receiving a federal Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.

This July 25 draw is part of Alberta’s previously announced expansion of targeted immigration streams. In 2025, the province plans to continue prioritizing skilled professionals in critical sectors, allowing both Alberta employers and foreign workers to benefit from a more strategic selection process.

For workers in construction trades such as electricians, carpenters, heavy equipment operators, and plumbers, this provides a valuable opportunity to immigrate permanently to Alberta. Applicants are encouraged to ensure that their Express Entry profiles clearly reflect their current job roles and any qualifying job offers within Alberta.

As Alberta’s economy continues to grow, the province is expected to maintain its focus on sector-specific draws to fill persistent gaps in its workforce, ensuring long-term economic stability and development.

Maple News will continue to monitor and report on future developments in Alberta’s provincial immigration policies.
