Maple News reports that the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) invited a total of 1,324 candidates to apply for provincial nomination in three targeted draws held in the first week of October 2025. These invitations were issued through the Express Entry and Alberta Opportunity streams, focusing on critical sectors such as construction, technology, and skilled trades.
The week began with Alberta’s largest draw on October 1 under the Alberta Opportunity Stream, where 1,003 candidates received invitations. These individuals, already working in the province, were selected based on a minimum required score of 61. The stream is designed for foreign workers committed to building long-term careers and settling in Alberta.
On October 3, Alberta conducted a draw through its Accelerated Tech Pathway, issuing 230 invitations to tech professionals with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 52. This pathway continues to be a preferred route for skilled workers in the technology sector, which is experiencing rapid growth in Alberta’s urban centres.
The final draw of the week, held on October 7, targeted candidates in the construction sector under the Alberta Express Entry Stream – Priority Sectors. Ninety-one invitations were sent to applicants with CRS scores of at least 60. With continued investment in housing and infrastructure, Alberta is actively filling labour shortages in construction by fast-tracking talent from abroad.
The AAIP enables Alberta to nominate individuals for Canadian permanent residence based on the province’s labour market priorities. The program includes several pathways aligned with the federal Express Entry system and provides opportunities for candidates both inside and outside Canada.
To apply through the AAIP, candidates must first ensure they meet eligibility requirements for their chosen stream. This includes maintaining an active Express Entry profile for Express Entry-linked programs. Applicants may also need to meet specific sector-focused criteria depending on the stream.
Once Alberta identifies a suitable candidate, they receive a Notification of Interest (NOI), after which they must submit a complete provincial nomination application within a limited timeframe. Successful nominees receive a nomination certificate which significantly boosts their overall CRS score in the federal Express Entry pool.
Alberta’s targeted immigration draws reflect the province’s strategic focus on addressing immediate workforce shortages while building a resilient, diversified economy. As labour demand grows across construction, technology, and other skilled trades, the AAIP remains a crucial tool for attracting global talent to Alberta.
