Maple News reports that Alberta continues to strengthen its workforce by inviting hundreds of skilled foreign workers through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). Between July 3 and July 16, 2025, the province issued invitations to apply for permanent residency under various immigration streams, focusing on key sectors facing labour shortages.
During this two-week period, Alberta conducted six separate draws, issuing a total of 382 invitations. These draws targeted professionals in high-demand sectors, including healthcare, law enforcement, aviation, agriculture, and construction. The invitations were issued under both the Alberta Express Entry stream and the Alberta Opportunity Stream.
The Alberta Opportunity Stream was the most significant contributor, with 269 invitations issued on July 11 to temporary foreign workers already employed full-time in Alberta. This stream supports foreign workers with valid job offers in eligible occupations who are already contributing to the province’s economy.
The Alberta Express Entry stream conducted four draws targeting candidates aligned with sector-specific priorities. On July 16, a draw under the Law Enforcement Pathway invited fewer than 10 candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 49. A July 8 draw focused on aviation professionals brought in 20 candidates with scores of 53, while the agricultural draw on July 4 invited 15 candidates with a higher cut-off of 64.
Two healthcare draws—one under Express Entry on July 3 and another via the non-Express Entry stream on July 9—invited 36 and 32 healthcare professionals respectively. These low score thresholds (62 and 53) signal Alberta’s urgent need for health sector talent.
The AAIP has increasingly prioritized sector-driven immigration. In 2025, the Alberta Express Entry stream expanded its focus to include three designated pathways: Healthcare, Accelerated Tech, and Law Enforcement. These are in addition to priority industry sectors that include agriculture, construction, aviation, and healthcare.
Alberta’s targeted approach allows the province to align immigration more closely with evolving labour market demands. With the flexibility to adjust pathway priorities, Alberta is enhancing its capacity to attract foreign talent where it is needed most.
According to Maple News, these recent draws reflect Alberta’s commitment to bolstering economic resilience through strategic immigration. International professionals with relevant experience and employment offers in the province are encouraged to monitor AAIP updates for future opportunities.
