Maple News reports that Alberta conducted its most significant immigration draw of 2024, issuing over 1,400 invitations to candidates through its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). The draws, held between September 12 and 19, were part of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) and targeted key labor sectors, including tech and law enforcement.
On September 12, the Alberta Opportunity Stream issued 1,113 invitations to temporary foreign workers in Alberta who have secured a qualifying full-time job offer from a licensed Alberta employer. This stream continues to serve as a crucial pathway for foreign nationals already integrated into Alberta’s workforce.
A separate draw on September 16 issued 320 invitations under the Accelerated Tech Pathway, targeting tech professionals with job offers in high-demand occupations. This pathway, part of Alberta’s Express Entry Stream, addresses the province’s growing need for skilled workers in sectors such as software development, IT infrastructure, and data analysis.
Additionally, Alberta conducted a draw on September 17 through its Express Entry Stream – Law Enforcement Pathway, issuing fewer than 10 invitations. This newer pathway is specifically designed for candidates with job offers from members of the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police. Launched to support local police recruitment, it’s a tailored initiative to enhance public safety staffing across Alberta.
The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores required for each stream were notably low, reflecting Alberta’s proactive approach to addressing labor shortages. The minimum score was 63 for the Opportunity Stream, 55 for the Tech Pathway, and a mere 56 for the Law Enforcement Pathway.
In total, 1,433 invitations were issued over this concentrated week of draws, signaling Alberta’s continued commitment to attracting qualified newcomers who can contribute to both its economy and communities.
These results underscore Alberta’s strategic use of its nomination streams to fill key labor market gaps, offering immigrants clear and accessible routes to permanent residency in Canada.
