Newfoundland and Labrador Invites 359 Candidates Through Provincial and Atlantic Immigration Programs

Maple News reports that on July 10, the Newfoundland and Labrador Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism (OIM) extended 359 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence through two key immigration pathways: the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).

According to provincial immigration data, 300 of these invitations were issued under the NLPNP, while the remaining 59 were granted through the AIP. These programs aim to address ongoing labour shortages in Newfoundland and Labrador by attracting skilled foreign workers who can help strengthen the local economy.

To be eligible for consideration in this draw, candidates were required to hold a valid job offer or current employment in the province. Additionally, certain applicants needed an employer-issued invitation code. This requirement applied particularly to candidates without current work authorization in Canada or those applying through the AIP.

Candidates who submitted Expressions of Interest (EOIs) without declaring a job or a job offer—and where applicable, without an employer invitation code—were not eligible to receive an ITA from the province.

The provincial government emphasized that immigration selections are driven by labour market needs. As such, EOIs are evaluated based on how well they align with Newfoundland and Labrador’s economic priorities and workforce gaps.

The OIM has an established list of in-demand occupations that receive special consideration. These designated professions are exempt from additional labour market testing and are prioritized under both the NLPNP and the AIP. This strategic focus reflects the province’s commitment to attracting talent in fields where critical shortages exist.

As Atlantic Canada continues to innovate its immigration strategies, Newfoundland and Labrador stand out for its tailored approach that balances demographic needs with economic development goals. The recent draw illustrates the province’s proactive efforts to attract global talent and support long-term population growth.

Maple News will continue to provide updates on PNP and AIP developments as they unfold.
