Alberta Invites 133 Skilled Workers in Sector-Specific Provincial Nominee Draws

Maple News reports that the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) conducted two targeted draws between June 20 and June 25, 2025, inviting a total of 133 candidates to apply for permanent residence through provincial nomination. These draws reflect Alberta’s ongoing strategy of prioritizing candidates in high-demand sectors.

The June 20 draw was held under the Alberta Opportunity Stream, focusing on individuals in the agriculture sector. A total of 118 invitations were issued to candidates with a minimum score of 52. This stream continues to be a key path for temporary foreign workers already working full-time in Alberta who have secured valid job offers in eligible occupations.

Just five days later, on June 25, the program targeted candidates in the construction sector under the Alberta Express Entry Stream – Priority Sectors. In this draw, 15 candidates received invitations, with a minimum cut-off score of 67.

Currently, Alberta has issued 2,688 nominations under its 2025 provincial immigration allocation of 4,875. This leaves 2,187 nominations available for the remainder of the year, suggesting that further draws and sector-specific invitations are likely in the coming months.

In terms of stream-specific allocations, the Alberta Express Entry – Priority Sectors stream has a quota of 405 nominations for 2025. As of July 2, 223 have been issued, with 182 still available. There are currently 4,185 Expressions of Interest (EOIs) in the candidate pool for this stream.

Meanwhile, the Alberta Opportunity Stream—targeting individuals with Alberta job offers—has a significantly larger allocation of 2,592 spots. So far, 1,524 nominations have been issued, with 1,068 remaining. As of early July, a substantial 39,979 EOIs remain in this stream’s pool, indicating high demand.

To be eligible under the Alberta Opportunity Stream, candidates must have a full-time job offer from a provincial employer and either a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or hold an LMIA-exempt work permit.

These targeted draws highlight Alberta’s commitment to addressing labor shortages by prioritizing skilled talent in vital industries such as agriculture and construction. The AAIP is expected to continue engaging in selective, sector-based draws as it works through its annual nomination targets.
