Maple News reports that Alberta has conducted its latest targeted immigration draw, continuing its focus on attracting critical talent for the health care sector. On June 3, 2025, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) invited 36 candidates to apply for provincial nomination under its Express Entry-aligned Dedicated Health Care Pathway.
To qualify for this round, candidates were required to have a valid job offer from an Alberta employer within the health care industry. Additionally, they needed to meet the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 60, a relatively accessible threshold that signals Alberta’s strong demand for health care professionals.
This marks the sixth Dedicated Health Care Pathway draw conducted by Alberta in 2025. The stream operates in coordination with Canada’s federal Express Entry system, further streamlining permanent residency for foreign-trained medical professionals who meet regional labor needs.
Eligible applicants under this stream must not only hold a valid job offer but also demonstrate authorization from the relevant provincial regulatory body to practice in Alberta. Nine professions are included in this pathway, such as physicians, registered nurses, practical nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists, among others.
The recognized regulatory bodies vary by profession. For example, physicians must be approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), while registered nurses fall under the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Each applicant must provide proof of licensure or eligibility to be licensed in the province.
In addition, all candidates must hold an active Express Entry profile and qualify under one of the federal programs it encompasses—Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades, or Canadian Experience Class.
Alberta’s emphasis on sector-specific immigration, particularly in health care, highlights its strategy to resolve labor shortages and strengthen essential services. Provinces across Canada are using targeted pathways like this one to ensure newcomers directly meet regional economic priorities.
Maple News will continue to provide timely updates on Canada’s evolving immigration landscape, including provincial draws, pathways, and sector-specific opportunities.
